Jablonec hockey players are in danger of not being able to participate in the next year of the 2nd league. Problems with renting the local winter stadium are to blame. There is also speculation about the possible sale of the license to the originally relegated Hronov.

Today, a short statement was published on the website of the traditional second league participant: “In connection with the unsatisfactory technical condition of the winter stadium and the unexpected termination of contracts without giving a reason by its operator (Sport Jablonec s.r.o., represented by managing director Štěpán Matek) we are not able to meet the license conditions required by the hockey association for the operation of our A-team in the second league.”

There is talk in the corridors that Jablonec will sell the license for the second league to Hronov, which did not manage the play-offs in the spring and was relegated. It is not even certain whether the Wolves will at least play in the region. “The management of the club is trying to solve the current crisis situation with the city representatives, and thereby save hockey in Jablonec nad Nisou,” reads the press release.

We covered the tense relationship between the hockey club and the stadium administrator in detail during the 2021/2022 season in a series of articles. At that time, Jablonec was struggling with recurring problems with the ice, due to which he had to postpone several second-league matches and was even threatened with having his license revoked.

Now, less than two years later, the disputes, which have become personal, are escalating. Jablonec, which has been playing in the second league continuously since the 2001/2002 season and has been in the tie for promotion to the Chance League three times, is in existential problems.

“The management of the club is trying to solve the current crisis situation with the city representatives, and thereby save hockey in Jablonec nad Nisou.”

This is all the more painful news considering the great work that Jablonec has done with the youth in recent years – he succeeded mainly in recruiting, in which he achieved numbers that the entire republic envied him.

But what will happen to Jablonec hockey now? In the next few hours, Hokej.cz will try to find out more.
