The Rennes-Angers Agro Institute is organizing from July 3 to 7 in Rennes on the 29e congress of the European Sociological Society on the theme: Crises and the future of rural areas.
The past months and years have caused us to question the nature of what we consider normal and what we consider a crisis. The COVID crisis, the war and its consequences, the climate crisis, all of this is changing the way we think about the world and act in it.
How do these rapid changes affect rural areas and the way they are imagined? Is the rural world newly in crisis or should it be considered as having long – or perhaps always – been in crisis, in sometimes unenlightened forms? Can we still consider the rural world as a place of stability? What are the crises affecting the rural world and where and when did these crises appear? With regard to the most pressing crises, what are the things that used to be taken for granted in the rural world and are now being questioned? And, conversely, what are the new challenges, new paths and new futures for the rural world that have been opened up?
Between 350 and 450 participants are expected for these 5 days of congress.
