UN Population Fund Signs Cooperation Protocol with Pharco Pharmaceutical Group to Support Family Planning Programs and Reproductive Health Services in Egypt

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar testified. Minister of Health and PopulationToday, Tuesday, a cooperation protocol was signed between United Nations Population Fundand Pharco Pharmaceutical Group of Companies, in favor of supporting the Ministry of Health in implementing family planning programs and promoting reproductive health services.

The minister emphasized that the cooperation protocol, in turn, serves the vision and directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic, regarding the expansion of partnerships and cooperation with the private sector, in a way that guarantees strengthening the health care system, and resolving the population issue that the Ministry of Health and Population places on top of its priorities, referring to permanent coordination with all local and international bodies. To develop and implement solutions to the population issue.

During his speech, the minister indicated that the programs that the state is working on to solve the population issue do not primarily look at the number of births only, but aim to achieve welfare and development in society through improving demographic characteristics, and providing a safe life for newborns of all ages in various aspects (healthy, socially, psychologically).

During his speech, the minister pointed out that during the past few years, the ministry has been keen to develop the health care infrastructure and develop various health facilities, in a way that guarantees the achievement of quality and expansion of the services provided to citizens and what they include of reproductive health services.

The protocol was signed by Mrs. Frederica Meyer, representative of the United Nations Population Fund, and Dr. Sherine Helmy, Managing Director and Vice Chairman of the Pharco Pharmaceutical Group.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the cooperation protocol included launching a campaign under the slogan “A Life Path”, aimed at reducing unmet needs for family planning in Egypt, strengthening family planning and reproductive health services, providing family planning services and means, and raising the efficiency of service providers from Medical teams in health facilities, as well as spreading culture and community awareness among citizens.

Abdel Ghaffar added that it is planned to train 2,000 family planning service providers, according to the latest scientific methods, to ensure support for family planning services and support the health of Egyptian women, pointing out that under the partnership it is planned to launch a number of mobile medical clinics for remote and disadvantaged areas to expand the scope Providing services and spreading awareness and culture among its citizens.

For his part, Dr. Hossam Abbas, Head of the Population and Family Planning Sector, stressed the continuation of fruitful cooperation through more than one project with the United Nations Population Fund, in a way that serves the issue of population and family planning, and helps provide family planning services, especially in remote governorates and regions, stressing the role He also stressed that the protocol is in line with the vision of the Egyptian leadership to strengthen partnership with the private sector to enhance the important health of citizens and improve the services provided to them, including improving maternal and child health, as well as strengthening the capabilities of service providers.

For his part, Dr. Sherine Helmy, Managing Director and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Pharco Pharmaceutical Group of Companies, said that the cooperation stems from the company’s keenness to activate its strategy by establishing partnerships with various private and public sector institutions, in a way that serves and benefits the Egyptian society, within the framework of seeking to secure needs. Local production of medicines and the localization of their manufacture with international standards, and in accordance with strict local and international quality rules.

For her part, Frederica Meyer, Representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Egypt, said that the United Nations Population Fund is working to end the unmet need for family planning, pointing out that this partnership is an important step towards achieving this goal, and that the Fund adopts a multi-sectoral and multi-partnership approach.
