Massive Power Outages in Ukraine: Causes and Consequences

What is the reason for shutdowns

As explained in DTEK, power outages caused by the operation of automation on the energy infrastructure.

“On May 30, from 13:28, power outages occur throughout the country due to the operation of automation on the energy infrastructure. It was caused by a decrease in the frequency in the unified energy system of Ukraine,” the company explained.

It is noted that the reasons for the decrease in frequency are being investigated by Ukrenergo specialists.

As of 2:32 p.m., Ukrenergo has granted permission to resume power supply.

Light situation by city

Kyiv

In the capital, problems with light are fixed in Shevchenkovsky, Solomensky, Svyatoshinsky, Goloseevsky, Obolonsky, Darnitsky districts.

DTEK has already reported about repair work in the city center.

“Our power engineers are resuming power supply to 15 houses of Institutskaya, Grushevskogo, Mazepa, Lipskaya and P. Orlik streets. The emergency shutdown occurred at 12:28. Specialists quickly went to the accident site and immediately healed 33 de-energized houses,” the press service said.

According to power engineers, another 15 houses remain de-energized, they must be switched to alternative sources by 14:30.

After the backup switch, the specialists will begin to repair the main equipment in order to ensure a reliable power supply scheme for the houses.

It should be noted that also in DTEK, Kyiv Electric Grids reported on emergency power outages.

Meanwhile, In Kyiv, there are already problems with the movement of electric transport.

According to Kyivpasstrans:

  • the movement of trams No. 1, 3, 14, 15 is delayed along the street. Heroes of Sevastopol,
  • the movement of trolleybuses No. 22, 27, 30, 42d along O. Dovzhenko street is delayed.

The reason is said to be an emergency shutdown by Ukrenergo.

Breweries

Brovary Mayor Igor Sapozhko also reported a partial lack of electricity.

“According to DTEK, as of 02:00 pm, the lack of power supply in the settlements of the Brovary City Territorial Society is not related to emergency situations at local transformer substations,” Sapozhko writes.

According to him, specialists are now working on solving the problem, and the timing of the resumption of electricity supply will be announced later.

Kharkiv

In some areas of Kharkov and the region, the light has disappeared. There are problems with light in Slobodsky and Saltovsky districts.

As explained in “Kharkovoblenergo”, temporary shutdowns are associated with the operation of protective automation.

“Outages are not related to the state and performance of electric power grids oblenergo” – said the press secretary of the company Marina Shevchenko.

Dnieper

Emergency power outages were reported in the Dnepropetrovsk region. In particular, the light disappeared partially in Pavlograd and in the Dnieper.

“Dear consumers! In the Dnipropetrovsk region there are emergency power outages. Voltage is not supplied to our networks yet,” the CEC reported.

As for transport, due to an emergency power outage, four traction substations remained without voltage. Therefore, tram number 11 and trolleybus number 2 stopped moving. Trolleybuses No. 16, No. 19, No. 21 run to Kosmicheskaya Square.

Odessa

In Odessa, in a number of houses in different areas, the light also went out.

In addition, according to local media, electric transport stopped in the city. Meanwhile, DTEK reports an accident on the power line.

Poltava

Also in Poltava, there is a partial lack of electricity supply.

As Valery Parkhomenko, deputy head of the Poltava city council, explained, blackouts in the city are associated with damage to the power grid.

Local residents are warned that temporarily without electricity, residents of the house:

  • mr. Gardens-1;
  • mr. Gardens-2;
  • he is Pushkin;
  • st. catholicity;
  • st. European;
  • he is Kharkiv highway.

Also, the mayor’s office of Poltava warned that due to damage to the power grid, delays in the operation of trolleybuses are possible.

Amounts

Blackouts are observed not only in Sumy, but also in the region. In addition, as explained in the local Elektroavtotrans, due to a voltage drop in the energy system of Ukraine, the supply substations were turned off in Sumy, therefore trolleybuses were forced to stop traffic.

“As a result, almost the entire contact network was de-energized in Sumy (with the exception of the Kerameya – Khimgorodok – Shestidesyatnikov St. section). As of 13:55, the trolleybuses were forced to stop traffic,” the carrier warned.

Municipal buses continue transportation without changes.

Zaporozhye

In the Zaporozhye region, massive power outages were recorded.

According to available information from Zaporozhyeoblenergo, more than 46,000 consumers have been de-energized in the regional center. Also without electricity, some consumers in the Zaporozhye region.

“Now the specialists of Zaporizhzhyaoblenergo PJSC, together with representatives of the Transmission System Operator NPC Ukrenergo, are investigating the reasons for the outage and are working to restore power supply,” the company said.

Kirovograd region

The head of the Kirovograd OVA Andrei Raikovich writes about failures in the power supply network.

“Friends! Please remain calm. There was no light due to failures in the power supply network. The automation worked properly and reliably. In 30 minutes, the light will begin to appear! I ask for restraint and order!” he wrote.

Local media report that now there is no power: Znamenka, Novoarkhangelskaya, parts of Novomirgorod and the Dobrovelichkovskaya community.

According to Yelena Danilchenko, the press secretary of Kirovogradoblenergo, in the cities there is an automatic-frequency unloading of the system.

Vinnitsa

There were also problems with light in Vinnitsa and the region. However, the filing
electricity has already been restored.

As Victor Stepanets, the technical director of Vinnytsyaoblenergo, told Suspilna, the anti-emergency automatics went off because of the decrease in the frequency in the network.

“This means that, apparently, some accidents occurred in the energy system, which led to a short-term decline. Now the situation has stabilized. There is electricity in Vinnitsa and the region,” Stepanets said.

Note that water supply problems were also reported in Vinnitsa. In particular, they talked about the temporary shutdown of the water pumping stations of Vishenka and the Old Town. The reason is a short-term power failure at water supply and sanitation facilities.

“Residents of these microdistricts may feel a decrease in water pressure in the network. Our specialists are already working on restoring power to stations and water supply,” Vinnytsiavodokanal warned.

Chernihiv region

Residents of some settlements of the Chernihiv region were left without electricity. In particular, the absence of light is partially reported in Pryluky.

In Moldova, there are problems with electricity against the backdrop of mass blackouts in Ukraine

In various cities, in particular in Chisinau, they reported an emergency power outage that occurred against the backdrop of massive blackouts in Ukraine.

As explained in the Ministry of Energy of Moldova, the reason for the disconnection of the Balti-Dnestrovsk line is in the Vinnitsa region.

According to the agency, experts have resumed the supply of electricity on all lines. Distribution companies must now reconnect consumers to medium and low voltage lines.

Ukrenergo launched an investigation

According to the operator, at about 13:00 in the power system, several main high-voltage lines were switched off. As a result of this, consumers in a number of areas were partially de-energized by the action of emergency automatics.

Currently, consumer nutrition continues. Supply should resume in the coming hours.

It is noted that The outages occurred for technical reasons and are not related to power shortages in the power system.

Blackouts in Ukraine

Recall that during the missile terror in autumn and winter, Ukraine lived under constant enemy attacks by Russians who tried to destroy the energy infrastructure of our country with missiles.

For some time, Ukrainians had to live in conditions of constant blackouts according to the schedule, or sometimes even emergency ones. But as a result, the energy system of Ukraine survived and by this time Ukraine had not felt massive blackouts for a long time.

But experts do not rule out that this year Ukraine may face a shortage of electricity in the summer.
