“The Need for a New Elevator in Guadalajara Hospital: Urgent and Unpostponable at 207,000 Euros, According to SESCAM”

According to SESCAM, it is an “unpostponable” need that will cost 207,000 euros to communicate the ICU with the surgical block

Until now, the emergency department and the oncohematology day hospital have been transferred. The rest need a lift

The slowness in the transfer of services from the old hospital building in Guadalajara to the new one could have a cause: the lack of a new elevator that connects both buildings.

This is how it appears in a document published by SESCAM to urgently search for a company that is in charge of doing these jobs. According to SESCAM itself, it is a decision “unpostponable” that cannot be solved “no other way”.the kings in the new hospitalThe Kings visiting the hospital on September 14

According to the documentation presented by SESCAM, and to which Guadalajara Diario has had access, although the emergency service moved in September 2022 For the transfer of the rest of the services, it is essential to build an elevator that allows communication with the ICU service and the surgical unit, fundamentally”.elevator 1

That same document recognizes that it is a necessity “unpostponable” that without him “they could not settle in their new locations and it would delay all the planned care activity.” Necessity- indicates the text- “to guarantee complete health care for patients admitted to the Hospital extension”.

That same document indicates that the need for a connection between the two buildings “They have become clear once the works have been completed and with the transfer of the care services already planned.”

The process to find a company to install the elevator began in February and ended a few days ago, exactly on April 3, with the award of the work to the Schindler company, which will charge 205,000 euros for this work. According to the documentation that Guadalajara Diario has been able to consult, at first three companies were invited to participate in the process but only one, Schindler, made an offer, days later it was asked to improve the offer at an economic level but it refused with what that on April 3 the final adjudication was made.

Once the contract is signed, the company has four months to start the works, so the installation will not be finished until September at least and therefore there will be no new transfer of services to the new hospital building.

The hospital’s response

It’s a statement Antonio Saiz, manager of the integrated area of Guadalajara, points out that the new elevator is an improvement on the initial project. He affirms that the current elevators comply with the regulations and that if it is built it is because “The new protocols in terms of patient safety, to which we are fully committed, recommend larger dimensions for the transfer of critical patients.”

“Current recommendations- the statement continues- They propose that critical patients be transferred with more personnel. In addition, these transfers involve a large amount of equipment next to the patient’s own bed. For this reason, the need to create a specific elevator for the transfer of these patients between floors one and zero, which correspond to the Intensive Care and Radiodiagnosis Unit, has been estimated”.

In that same statement, the manager assures that the construction of this new elevator does not affect the forecast of transfers to the hospital extension, something that contradicts the documentation presented by SESCAM when contracting the work and that can be verified in this news item in the first Photo showing the text of the call made by SESCAM.

Six months from the transfer

On September 14, their Majesties the King and Queen inaugurated the new Hospital building. In January a second service was transferred: the Oncohematological day hospital. The next transfers, as announced, will be those of geriatrics and psychiatry.

180 million investment

The works of the Hospital have cost more than 180 million euros. 140 million have been for the work, 35 for the equipment and 8.5 million to indemnify the construction companies when the work was stopped. To that amount must be added what it costs to update the old building whose work will go out to tender at the beginning of the year as confirmed by the regional president.

The new building, with 116,000 square meters, will make it possible to almost double the number of beds, from 400 to around 700, beds that will mostly be located in individual rooms to serve a population of 275,000 people. There will be more staff, up to 250 more than now – according to the regional president -, more specialties and more consultations.
