Project to Establish Specialized Center for Punishment, Treatment and Rehabilitation in Abu Dhabi – Ministry of Interior’s Strategy to Combat Drug Abuse

Lieutenant General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, revealed a project to establish a specialized center for the implementation of punishment, treatment and rehabilitation of civilians.
Lieutenant General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan confirmed that the project is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Interior, and coordination has been made with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to develop a general vision for the project and allocate the required budget.

His Highness said in a written response to the Federal National Council at its session on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi about a parliamentary question submitted by Hamid Ali Al Abbar Al Shamsi, a member of the Council, about drug users among young citizens, that the Ministry of Interior had previously formed the Drug Control Council, and the Council is concerned with implementing a national strategy for drug control, achieving indicators The strategy is to strengthen the role of ministries and federal and local government agencies concerned with combating drugs, encourage civil non-governmental institutions to contribute to the community, encourage innovation and institutional creativity in combating drugs.
He added, the Ministry of the Interior has developed a national strategy to combat drugs as follows: reducing the demand for drugs (prevention and awareness, treatment and rehabilitation, community integration, protecting the school environment), and reducing opportunities for drug supply (disciplining dealers, controlling promoters, and controlling drugs).
His Highness said that the Ministry of Interior has prepared and updated anti-drug plans to reduce the number of drug users from (15-35) years old during the years (2019-2022) through the following: intensifying the control of drug dealers, intensifying the control of drug dealers, banning websites that promote drugs, Reducing the rate of defaulting on periodic examination, arresting drug users.
His Highness added, the Ministry of Interior launched proactive services through the campaign (Participate with us to prevent it), as the campaign aims to combat promotional messages for narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, which arrive from outside the Emirates through social media platforms.
His Highness said that the Anti-Narcotics Council supervised the plan to reduce the demand for drugs, which achieved the following achievements: training and qualifying the administrative staff to detect cases of abuse in schools and benefiting from it (10462) employees, and issuing a guide for parents to prevent drugs and obtaining intellectual rights, issuing a guide to preventing drug abuse Drugs in the school environment and obtaining intellectual rights over it, defining procedures for dealing with suspected cases of drug abuse in schools, launching a Siraj platform for social communication to prevent drug abuse and raise awareness of its harmful effects by implementing various campaigns 136 million views, holding panel discussions for parents to protect children in cooperation with the Ministry of Development Society The rehabilitation and reform programs included the following educational programmes, religious, cultural and sports programmes, special programs for rehabilitation of drug addicts, vocational programmes, initiatives and programmes.
In addition, special programs have been prepared to rehabilitate addicts in prison and correctional institutions. The 12-step program has (295) beneficiaries, as (7,500) people have benefited from it.
