“Japanese Prime Minister Dismisses Son for Inappropriate Behavior at Official Residence – Full Story”

Tokyo

Prime Minister (PM) Japan Fumio Kishida dismissed his own son as political secretary because of his behavior deemed inappropriate. The move came after photos circulated showing Kishida’s son and relatives pretending to hold a press conference at the Japanese prime minister’s official residence.

As reported ReutersTuesday (30/5/2023), the photos of Kishida’s son and his relatives sparked a strong reaction from the Japanese public, also sparking sharp criticism from the government opposition.

While speaking to local journalists, Kishida stated that his son, Shotaro Kishida, would be stepping down as the political secretary of the Japanese PM starting Thursday (1/6).

Kishida explained that the resignation was due to “inappropriate” behavior at the Japanese PM’s official residence.

A weekly magazine, last week, published photos of Shotaro and some of his relatives pretending to hold a press conference on the podium where the Japanese PM usually stands talking to reporters.

Kishida while speaking to reporters said he had decided to replace his son from his current position.

“His behavior in public is inappropriate as someone who occupies an official position as a political aide. I decided to replace him as a form of accountability,” said Kishida when discussing the matter of dismissing his own son.
