Martin Scorsese is going to make another movie about Jesus Christ. The director announced his intention after he had an audience with Pope Francis last Saturday.
The pope had called on artists to convey the message of Christ in a special way. “I responded to the pope’s call in the only way I know how: by creating and writing a screenplay for a film about Jesus,” the 80-year-old Oscar winner said. Variety.
“And I’m about to make it.” He did not disclose any additional details about the religious film. At a conference, Scorsese said Francis’s call “to show us Jesus” had moved him.
“There are many ways and I think the one you choose depends on the culture you’re part of,” he said. “My way was and is Catholicism.” After years of struggling, the director found out that he feels most at ease as a Catholic. “I believe in the principles of Catholicism.”
Scorsese has made films about his faith before. The Last Temptation of Christ was published in 1988 and Silence in 2016.
