The Emirates Publishers Association signed a memorandum of understanding with the Emirates Libraries and Information Association, with the aim of enhancing cooperation between the two sides in supporting the publishing and library sectors in the country, under which Emirates Libraries will launch an initiative to provide a publishing grant for books specialized in the field of libraries.
Abdullah Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Publishers Association, said, “The memorandum comes within the framework of our keenness to consolidate the bonds of cooperation, joint work and exchange of experiences with all institutions concerned with the knowledge sectors, to advance the publishing sector in the UAE, advance the book industry, and transform it into a sustainable industry that serves various fields of knowledge.
He referred to the complementary roles between the two associations in supporting the efforts of publishing houses to promote the knowledge and cultural renaissance in the country, adding: “We look forward through this memorandum to provide more facilities for authors and publishers in order to increase knowledge production and supply the publishing industry with specialized publications that meet the needs of workers in the library sector.” And helping them keep abreast of everything new in this field, which contributes to enhancing the competitiveness of the UAE publishing sector and its ability to influence knowledge and economically.
While the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Library and Information Association, Fahd Ali Al Maamari, expressed his aspiration to expand cooperation with the Emirates Publishers Association in the future, in a way that benefits both sides, and is in line with the great development in the field of libraries, information and the publishing sector, and in a way that contributes to the development and dissemination of knowledge and culture. And to provide all that is new about educating, training and qualifying those interested.
The terms of the memorandum of understanding focused on the publishing grant initiative that the Emirates Libraries and Information Association will launch and provide financial support to publishers who are members of the Emirates Publishers Association only, so that each publishing house is eligible for financing to print a maximum of five books, provided that the book is new and has not been previously published, and that it is Specializing in the library sector.
The initiative will open the door for registration to publishers who are members of the Emirates Publishers Association from the first to the 31st of next August, and the results of the initiative will be announced during next December.
