A number of netizens Turki the excitement is over Recep Tayyip Erdogan won the general election on Sunday (28/5), a day before the anniversary of the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople.
One netizen highlighted this fact after Erdogan himself likened his victory to the conquest of Constantinople.
“In his victory speech, President Erdogan likened his victory to the conquest in 1453,” the netizen said on Twitter.
Another netizen said Türkiye is supporting Erdogan on the anniversary of the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople.
“Turkey supports Erdogan in the anniversary of Constantinople to the hands of the Ottomans,” he wrote.
Other netizens say May 29 1453 is as important as May 29 2023.
“May 29, 1453 changed the history of mankind. May 29, 2023 is just as important,” said the netizen.
On May 29, Türkiye commemorates the 570th anniversary of the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople. This commemoration took place a day after Erdogan won the election.
In the second round of elections, Erdogan got 52.14 percent of the vote, while his rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, was 47.86 percent. This victory made him return to the presidential chair for the third time.
