Residents found a baby who was allegedly dumped in West Cikarang, Bekasi District, West Java. When found, the baby was wearing a gold necklace.
“We received a report on Sunday (28/5) in the morning that a baby had been found in front of residents’ houses,” said West Cikarang Police Chief Kompol Sutrisno in his statement, Monday (29/5/2023).
The baby was found on Sunday (28/5), at 04.00 WIB, by the local community. The baby is male.
In addition to a gold necklace, residents found a letter near the baby. From posts circulating on social media, the letter contained a message allegedly written by the victim’s parents.
In essence, the victim’s parents asked the residents who found their baby to take care of him. The reason is, the victim’s parents argued that they would work abroad.
“Members of the West Cikarang Police and Babinsa are working with related parties, such as the Social Service and other agencies, to coordinate the next steps regarding the discovery of this baby. We also identified a letter and a gold necklace that were found with the baby, in the hope of providing clues in the investigation of this case,” said Sutrisno.
Then, the police entrusted the baby to a midwife named Yayah Ratnaningsih. Yayah is a health professional who has experience in caring for babies.
The police will try to reveal the identity of the baby’s parents. “The community around Mariuk Village, Gandasari Village, is also expected to be able to help by providing relevant information to the police if they have knowledge or observations regarding the discovery of this baby,” explained Sutrisno.
“Cooperation between the police and the community is very important in efforts to find the truth and safeguard the best interests of the babies found,” he concluded.
