If the lunch box were replaced by a healthy school lunch, children would become healthier and children would have more equal opportunities. This is shown by research in Sweden. In Sweden, children have been receiving a healthy lunch at school for years. The problem is that parents don’t want to get rid of the lunch box.
Susanne Suijkerbuijk saw major differences between children’s lunch boxes. She intervened and now feeds all the children at the Child Center in Sittard the same. Children and parents seem to love it. Why don’t we do that in all schools?
Reporter Odette Joosten researched school lunches. She traveled to the promised land of school lunch, Sweden, and tells in Pointer Talk to Esmee Dirks and Benjamin de Bruijn what she saw there.
In the section Poor or promising Hanno Pijl, professor of diabetology at Leiden University, responds to Benjamin’s solution.
