TEHRAN, May 28 (Xinhua) — At least four people were killed in flash floods on Saturday evening in northeastern Iran, the official IRNA news agency reported on Sunday.
The floods were caused by heavy rains in Farouj and Shirvan counties of North Khorasan province, IRNA said quoting Gholamreza Shafiq, the director of the provincial crisis management organization.
In Farouj County, rainfall caused the river level to rise four meters in the village of Ostad, which in turn caused casualties and heavy material damage, he added.
Searches are underway to find other potential victims in the most affected villages, namely Ostad, Khosravieh and Choukanlou, after two bodies were found in the area, according to Mr Shafiq.
In Shirvan County’s Golian village, two people died as they were trapped in a car that was washed away, he noted.
According to the official, the floods in this county also buried 18 cars in the mud. END
