US President Biden Congratulates Turkish President Erdogan on Re-Election

US President Joe Biden, Sunday, congratulated his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on his re-election. “I look forward to continuing to work together as two NATO allies on bilateral issues and shared global challenges,” he said in a tweet.

On Sunday, the head of Turkey’s Supreme Electoral Commission, Ahmed Yanar, announced Erdogan’s victory in a new presidential term after obtaining 52.14 percent of the vote in the run-off, which represents the official result of the elections, according to Reuters.

Yanar said that after counting 99.43 percent of the ballot boxes, Erdogan’s rival Kılıçdaroğlu received 47.86 percent.

He added that with a difference of more than two million votes between the two candidates, the rest of the votes that have not yet been counted will not change anything in the result.

On Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed a speech to the Turkish people, vowing to continue with his government’s policies after announcing his victory in a second presidential term that extends to 2028, while he gave reassurances about the inflation plaguing the country, in addition to the situation of Syrian refugees in Turkey.

“The most pressing issue is inflation, but its solution is not difficult,” Erdogan said in remarks following the official announcement of his victory in the elections, adding that “inflation will decrease just as interest rates have decreased.”

Erdogan said his government would “secure the return of an additional one million Syrian refugees”.

The president, who won more than 52 percent of the Turkish vote in an unprecedented run-off, said he would work to “put aside differences,” adding that “terrorist organizations” lost and 85 million citizens all won, he said.

Erdogan vowed to deliver on promises [الانتخابية] and stick to it.
