“Former Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn Dismissed Amidst Dramatic Bundesliga Win”

Herbert Hainer, president of Bayern Munich Football Club, said that the talks with former CEO Oliver Kahn were very sensitive, and that they were unable to separate in an amicable way, so he was not allowed to travel with the team to Cologne in the last round of the Bundesliga.

However, Kan denied that he went into a fit of anger when he was informed of his sacking, and said he accepted the decision calmly.

Bayern Munich achieved its eleventh consecutive title in the Bundesliga in a dramatic way, after Borussia Dortmund entered the last round at the top of the standings and was seeking to win, but it tied 2-2 with Mainz, while Bayern achieved a late victory over Cologne.

Kahn was not seen in his usual place next to Hainer, former sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and other officials during the match. Minutes after the title was won, the club announced that Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic had been dismissed.

Heiner said in a press conference on Sunday: Honorary President Uli Hoeness and I spoke with Hamidic and it was last Thursday, in order for them to have enough time to deal with the situation, and also out of respect for these two great personalities.

And while the talks with Hamidzic went very well, the same with Kahn: it was nervous and we couldn’t part amicably.

Heiner added: As a result, we called for an extraordinary meeting of the supervisory board on Friday, through which we made the decision that he would not come with us to Cologne.

Minutes before the press conference, Kan wrote a tweet in which he stated: The claim that I went into a fit of anger when I was informed about my dismissal was definitely not true.

Kahn added that the conversation was calm and matter-of-fact and that he accepted the decision calmly, but questioned the timing of the decision.

He wrote: On Saturday morning I was informed that I would not be able to go to the match. I also accepted the decision calmly. Of course I’m sad, but I’m very happy about winning the title.

Reporters were initially told he would miss the match in Cologne due to a cold, but on Saturday he tweeted that the club would not allow him to be with the players.

Heiner said: Bayern has very high standards. If some things aren’t going the way we want them to, we have to move. Oliver was an absolutely amazing player and we will do everything we can to ensure he stays in the Bayern Munich family.

Salihamidzic was sacked after many questionable decisions. While the duo did not sign a striker to replace Robert Lewandowski for this season, and winning the league this season was very difficult, they also sacked Julian Nagelsmann for no reason last March.

Thomas Tuchel was hired to replace Nagelsmann, but he led the team out of the Champions League and the German Cup in the quarter-finals before winning the league title with great difficulty.

Salih Hamidic also disagreed with Hansi Flick, the former team coach and current coach of the German national team.

Jan Christian Dresen, vice-president of the council, will replace Kahn.

Dressen said: I have a different plan for my life. I had some great years, and coming here 10 years ago was one of the big decisions I made in my life. You should consider changing your plans when something impactful comes along.

So far, Salihamidzic’s successor has not been settled, and Heiner said he does not intend to speculate on any names.

He said: Of course we have names that we are considering in this regard, but it is still early.

According to media reports, the most prominent candidate is Max Eberl, director of football at Leipzig, who took over the position last December, after leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach suddenly in January 2022.

Among the candidates is Markus Korsche, member of the board of directors of Eintracht Frankfurt for sports affairs.

Regarding the return of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the former CEO, who was replaced by Cannes in 2021, Hainer said that the club: will work closely with him again, and that he will be proposed to join the supervisory board next Tuesday.
