Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – Participation in the Conference League is also financially interesting for Eintracht Frankfurt. “The Conference League would be an economically attractive competition if it reached the group stage. It would be worth it,” said Oliver Fahrenbach, CFO of the Bundesliga soccer team, in an interview published on the club’s website on Sunday. “The Conference League would be a good source of revenue, especially if it were successful.”
The Hessian club finished seventh in the table with a 2-1 (0-1) win against SC Freiburg on the last day of the season and thus made it into the Conference League. Should Eintracht win the DFB Cup final in Berlin against RB Leipzig next Saturday, they would start in the higher Europa League.
“Of course, success in Berlin would be economically attractive. However, with seventh place and the prospect of international business, we are in a much better starting position,” said Fahrenbach. “You don’t have to explain to anyone in Frankfurt what is also economically possible via the Europa League.” The Hessians won this European competition last year and earned more than 60 million euros in revenue.
