Jakarta –
The number of birth rates in Japan has decreased dramatically. This sparked concern for the Japanese government because it could cause a population crisis.
There are many factors that cause the birth rate in Japan to decline. One of them is people who are reluctant to have children.
In a survey conducted by the Shufu Job Soken agency, more than 70 percent of working women in Japan said that the main reason for the decline in the birth rate was the high cost of raising children.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is currently considering expanding parental allowances. This is expected to increase the birth rate in Japan.
Although this step is expected to be a ‘way out’ of Japan’s low birth rate, many women also find it difficult to balance careers and raising children. This shows that money alone cannot solve the problem.
The survey results were obtained from 554 respondents of all ages, especially those in their 40-50s who were motivated to work.
From the results of the survey, 74.2 percent of respondents said that the costs involved in raising children were too expensive. In addition, 63.2 percent of respondents also said that the burden of raising children was disproportionately placed on women.
A further 60.3 percent said there were few jobs that were suitable for raising children and 57.8 percent also said that few people wanted to get married, causing a decrease in the birth rate.
Various responses emerged from respondents about balancing work and having children. There are those who feel that this can be done, but there are also those who object to having to do these two things simultaneously.
