Offenbach’s retail trade attracts visitors with offers and promotions
Internet trade and the corona pandemic have left their mark across Germany, which can be seen particularly in the inner cities. “More and more people are buying online, and retail is experiencing a radical upheaval. In everyday life, people have long needed reasons other than shopping to come to the cities. Everyday life is one thing, but special events are another. On special occasions, many people still come to the city centers, including Offenbach, to shop. I am therefore very pleased that the meeting point trade association has, as in the past, put together a varied live program and special offers for the whole family for the 25th edition of the Offenbach Week from June 1st to 4th. This also includes Sunday shopping on June 4th,” says Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke.
Stroll, enjoy and experience what is on offer
From Thursday (1st) to Sunday (4th) it’s time to stroll, enjoy and experience what’s on offer, for example on Sunday at the exclusive fashion shows of the M. Schneider department store at 1 p.m., 2.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m., while the children in the Children’s area on Aliceplatz in front of the KOMM department store. The children’s area is available on Saturday and Sunday and is of course free of charge. “An experiment this year is the presentation “Weekly market meets Offenbach week”: with a total of six stands, the market suppliers are on the “market place” on the Sunday that is open for shopping, which also has the market in its name,” says Mayor Schwenke. This is the first time that the almost completed market square has been integrated into the concept as a new event location in the city centre. As an important goal in the course of the conversion, the recreation areas of the market square were enlarged. The Heckelmann family with their herb stand, Blumen Palumbo, and the Café Luigi with its small red espresso trolley ensure Mediterranean flair there. For the physical well-being, the snack bar, fruit and vegetable stand Brenner and the butcher Kaiser are on the square. Another treat are the free short tours by city expert Monika Krämer, she slips into her prime role of the babbling market woman and combines city history with the here and now in a knowledgeable and entertaining way.
The Apotheke zum Löwen turns the Offenbach Week into a beauty week and offers skin analysis and treatments – of course with special offers and discounts. In addition, the lion mascot walks through the city center on Sunday shopping and hands out cards with a QR code that can be used to collect a small gift.
Walking acts in the current location campaign indicate that Offenbach is the “Soul OF Hessen”.
Top-class live program
Sydney Youngblood, Zillertaler Schürzenjäger, Roy Hammer & die Pralinees and Münchner Freiheit: all of them and many others have been there since the first Offenbach Week in 1995 and made sure there was dancing, swaying, singing along and lots of fun. This was always joined by well-known bands from the region or promising newcomers, which is also the case at this year’s edition. Whether rock classics, soul and funk, new wave, disco, pop – everyone will be happy musically in front of the stage in the Stadthof. The musicians of the soul band Harris & Harris will open the dance on Thursday, June 1st at 6 p.m. The eleven-piece formation presents soul music from the 60s to the 80s, ranging from “Sweet Soul Music” by the Temptations to Sam & Dave to Stevie Wonder and Lou Rawls.
On Friday, June 2nd, the program will also start at 6 p.m. with the Free Electric Band, consisting of criminologist Fred Bauer and sound engineer Achim “Schnalli” Schnall. Together, the two childhood friends had the idea in 2014 to set up a top-line rock band that only served the 70s and have been successfully on the road with their time machine ever since.
Then the “Hells Bells” ring and fans know that more than alternating current/direct current flows with it: The X-Hells have dedicated themselves to the music of the Australian hard rock band AC/DC and are one of the few female tribute bands. High voltage girl power is the order of the day when the five ladies from Germany, Austria and Switzerland whirl across the stage.
DJ Ötzi on the live stage
The party starts on Saturday at 6 p.m. with the band “Desperado”, many of whom are sure to be familiar with the Darmstadt Schlossgrabenfest. Already there, with their mix of Bob Marley, Ed Sheeran, Nena and Michael Jackson, they served up a cocktail of party hits to dance to.
Then the stage is set for Gerry Friedle, better known as “Anton from Tyrol”. It was there in 1971 that it saw the light of day and just a few years later it was creating a good atmosphere at après-ski. Songs like “A star that bears your name” and “Hey Baby” are inextricably linked to the name of DJ Ötzi, and the performance by the Austrian entertainer promises to put you in a good mood. Everyone can sing along, not only with the title “A star that bears your name”. Selling more than 1.2 million copies, the single was in the German top ten for 41 weeks without a break, even displacing the previous record holder Freddy Quinn with “The Guitar and the Sea” from number 1 on the all-time bestseller list in Germany. And “Anton aus Tirol” is still the best-selling single of all time in Austria. But also his versions of “Sweet Caroline” and “Hey Baby”, as well as “Bella Ciao”, “A Mann mit Amore” and many other of his songs are guarantors for an atmospheric performance. “Even if taste in music is of course always different: with DJ Ötzi we are offering the opportunity to experience a definitely highly successful musician live in the middle of Offenbach’s city center with DJ Ötzi on the anniversary of the Offenbach Week,” says Mayor Schwenke happily.
The party is far from over after this performance, because from 10 p.m. the Mainz cult band “Jammin’ Cool” will ensure a great atmosphere. In their repertoire they have songs by Culcha Candela, Kool & The Gang and many other stars of the past decades and of modern times, danceable, soulful, funky and rocking.
On Sunday, June 4th, when shops are open, the organizers remain true to themselves and invite you to Country Time again from 2 p.m. The band Louisiana, who have been asking the line dancers to dance until 7 p.m. in front of the town hall for over 15 years with their real, unadulterated country sound with steel guitar and polyphonic vocal chords, provide western spirit.
Special rates in the city center car park
The city center is attractive and those who do not want to travel by public transport or by bicycle can park their car in the surrounding multi-storey car parks at KOMM (Geleitsstrasse/Kleine Marktstrasse) and at Waldstrasse 44 from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The multi-storey car parks in Berliner Strasse “Tiefgarage City Tower” and in Französisches Gässchen are open until 10 p.m., Saturday until 8:30 p.m. and closed on Sunday. The underground car park Rathaus & Haus der Wirtschaft and the new city center car park on Ziegelstraße are open around the clock. This awaits visitors with reduced prices, on the occasion of the Offenbacher Woche 30 minutes will only cost 0.60 euros instead of 1.20 euros and the day ticket even only 12 euros. If you want to stay longer, you can park the car overnight from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. for the price of 2 euros.
