What a weekend at FC Bayern: In a trembling final in Cologne, coach Thomas Tuchel’s team was able to bring the trophy back to Munich at the last second with a 2-1 win – while Dortmund, who were previously sure of victory, were unable to do so with a 2-2 win against Mainz enough for the title. But the decision had long since been made by the supervisory board around Uli Hoeneß: the bosses Kahn and Salihamidzic, who had come under criticism, could no longer save the last-minute championship.
CEO Oliver Kahn had not even traveled to the game. “I would like to celebrate with you, but unfortunately I can’t be with you today because the club has forbidden me,” the outgoing boss tweeted. And he said to Sky: “It was the worst day of my life, taking it from me to celebrate with the boys.” Meanwhile, his successor was sitting in the stadium: CFO Jan-Christian Dreesen will be the new Bayern CEO.
The outgoing sports director Hasan Salihamidzic, on the other hand, was there in Cologne, celebrated with the team and said goodbye with an emotional speech in the dressing room – and then emphasized: “I would have liked to have continued.” Talks with a possible successor are already underway: RB Leipzig’s sports director Max Eberl is said to be the top candidate for the position of Bayern sports director. According to Sky, there should already have been a conversation between the club managers and Eberl.
Eberl has only been Leipzig’s sports director since December after resigning from Borussia Mönchengladbach in early 2022. The 49-year-old has already been considered a candidate at FC Bayern in the past.
