Die Japan national American football team (American football Japan national team Amerikanfuttobōru nihondaihyō) is a selection of Japanese football players governed by the Japan American Football Association (JAFA).
It represents Japan in international American football tournaments and is considered one of the strongest teams in the world, having won the American Football World Cup twice.
She won the title in 1999 and four years later in 2003. At the home world championship in 2007, the team reached the final and finished second. At the American Football World Cup 2011 in Austria, the team was eliminated for the first time in the semifinals and won the bronze medal in the third-place play-off. At the fifth American Football World Cup, held in the United States in 2015, the Japanese team again reached the final, but were ultimately defeated by the USA. The 59:12 defeat is also the heaviest defeat in the history of the Japanese national team.
In February 2003, Japan defeated the South Korean selection with an 88-0 victory, the highest victory in the history of the Japanese selection. Japan qualified for the 2017 World Games to represent Asia but did not compete in the tournament. The French team took the vacant place and won the tournament against the German selection.
General Manager of the Japanese selection is Shinzō Yamada.[1] The selection is trained by Kiyoyuki Mori.[2]
