The concert was held as a sign of the upcoming General Latvian Song and Dance Festival, gathering choristers and dancers from Jelgava and Jelgava region, who delighted the audience with Latvian folk dances and songs. Raymond Paul’s “My Homeland” was played as the last one, during which the audience also stood up and sang along, and this performance was repeated exactly at the request of the audience.
12 folk dance groups of the city and nine choirs of Jelgava and Jelgava region took part in the concert. The artistic director of the concert is Sandis Kalniņš, musical producer – Uldis Timma, scenographer – Ivars Pirvics.
It should be noted that the concert was also attended by delegations from Jelgava twinning cities from Rieijmalmezon (France), Carmel (USA) and Naka (Sweden). Strengthening the friendship between Jelgava and the city of Kārmel, with which a partnership agreement was signed only last year, Jelgava City Council Chairman Andris Rāviņš presented the flag of Latvia and Jelgava to the mayor of Kārmel, but The Jelgava flag for the mayor of Rieijmalmezon. Also, the flag of Jelgava was presented to the deputy of Naka.
