Jakarta –
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md spoke up about the Constitutional Court (MK) granting the lawsuit of KPK deputy chairman Nurul Ghufron regarding the tenure of KPK leaders from 4 years to 5 years. Mahfud admitted that he was still studying the decision.
“We are still studying all the best possibilities. Because the decision opens several possibilities that are not single as usual,” Mahfud Md said while in Pamekasan, reported detikJatimSaturday (27/5/2023).
“Usually there are laws that apply more quickly, but they also apply retroactively. For example, what applies after the next period is that the law for crimes will take effect in the next 3 years,” he added.
Mahfud then alluded to Nurul Ghufron who registered as a KPK leader when he was under 50 years old. However, the law that governed at that time did not immediately apply.
“Then regarding the KPK, after the birth of Law No. 19 there was a change in the minimum age requirement for KPK candidates. But at that time Mr. Ghufron was not yet 50 years old, so the law was treated when registering. It didn’t take effect immediately,” he said.
Furthermore, he ensured that this decision would be applied in the best way for Indonesia. He also ensured that the decision would not be politicized.
“Later we will look for the best for Indonesia and there will be no politicization, the best will be sought,” he said.
