“The Dark Side of Florida: Racism and Anti-Immigrant Laws in the Sunshine State”

Florida is one of the most popular places for Latinos for various reasons, the ease of getting there with direct flights, the proximity to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, which is a state with cosmopolitan cities like Miami and in turn has world attractions like Disney World; I would also add the fact that its Spanish-speaking community is one of the largest in the entire United States.

However, despite all those characteristics that we Latinos like who have had the opportunity to visit that beautiful state of the USA, it must be said that they are also one of the states that promote the most racism, it is one of the states that has repeatedly given the victory to the Republicans, yes, to Trump, who at the time did not miss an opportunity to put Latinos down every chance he had and exercise his power as president to generate division and rejection against Latinos.

But it’s not just a person, it’s cultural, and today we’re seeing the new regulations imposed by the governor of this state shielded by order, but losing sight of everything that comes with becoming an anti-immigrant state, because that’s the message that The new law is giving, criminalizing undocumented migrants and people who lend them a hand exceeds any good faith regulation that seeks order.

This law exceeds the limit between legality and the violation of the universal human rights of migrants, it also promotes hatred, indifference, and is a kind of persecution against any person who enters the state without having the necessary documentation. The law tries to normalize indifference and criminalize kindness by making people who help undocumented migrants criminally responsible, who give them work or some opportunity to integrate into the community they arrive at, migrants just want to work, start a new life with more opportunities.

The governor of Florida seems ignorant when he thinks that criminalizing immigrants is the solution to his problems, it is evident that he is an extremist, but without a doubt, reality will hit him in the face and he will begin to see what a state without immigrant wealth is like, for Soon I hope that the Latino community will be supportive and also stop going to Florida, a state that promotes these laws does not deserve our migrants, nor does it deserve us Latinos, that they stay with their crocodiles and see if they move their economy .
