He said Russia would if the West provided nuclear weapons to Kiev.
The threat from the Deputy Chair of the Security Council who is also the former president of Russia was made on Friday.
“There are some rules of war that cannot be changed. When it comes to [pengiriman] nuclear weapons [ke Ukraina]a pre-emptive strike must be carried out,” said Medvedev.
Throughout Russia’s full-scale invasion, which began in February 2022, Kiev has received a great deal of weapons and military equipment from its Western allies to aid its fight against Moscow.
That includes MiG-29 fighter jets, anti-aircraft systems, tactical drones, rocket systems, howitzers, and artillery shells.
So far there has been no discussion among the West to provide Ukraine with nuclear weapons.
Medvedev, as quoted by news agencies TASSSaturday (27/5/2023), said that there was a possibility that Ukraine would receive warplanes and possibly even nuclear weapons from its Western allies.
