“Sony Prioritizes Live-Service Games: 60% of Investment by 2025”

For a long time, the range of games from PlayStation Studios has been mainly dominated by narrative experiences for one player. But Sony representatives have recently openly admitted that this trend will change to some extent. Significantly inmore space should be given to live-service titles. They illustrate this orientation well newly published projected composition of games from Sony in the future, which occurred as part of the release of financial results.

The graph attached below clearly demonstrates the gradual shift towards multiplayer live-services, the ratio of which to traditional single-player games is gradually increasing. In fiscal 2025, the company expects that 60% of the investment will go to live-service games. In fiscal year 2019, the share of this type of games was only 12%.

Sony also expects gradual growth in the area of ​​additional paid content and subscriptions. It was also confirmed that the individual teams currently have PlayStation Studios 12 live-service games developed. This group includes, for example, the newly introduced game Fairgame$ from Haven Studios, the PvP event Marathon from Bungie, the shooter Concord from Firewalk Studios or the upcoming multiplayer The Last of Us.

Another interesting indicator is increasing share of new brands compared to the existing ones, which is to be exactly 50:50 in fiscal year 2025.
