Head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell condemned the agreement between Russia and Belarus on the transfer of Russian nuclear warheads to Belarusian territory.
This is stated in a statement by Borrell, released by the EU Foreign Service on Friday, reports “European truth“.
“This is a move that will lead to further extremely dangerous escalation,” Borrell said.
The EU High Representative emphasized that this decision contradicts the obligations that Russia assumed in the Budapest Memorandum, according to which Belarus eliminated all nuclear weapons from its territory. It also contradicts the commitments made in the Joint Statement of the Leaders of the Five Nuclear Powers of January 3, 2022, that a nuclear war cannot be won and should never be waged.
“We call on Russia to adhere to these obligations,” Borrell said.
He added that the Belarusian regime is complicit in Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine.
“We call on the Belarusian authorities to immediately stop supporting Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine and reverse decisions that can only increase tension in the region and undermine the sovereignty of Belarus.
Any attempt to further escalate the situation will be met with a decisive and coordinated response,” the head of EU diplomacy said in a statement.
Earlier Thursday, the defense ministers of Russia and Belarus signed documents on deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on Belarusian territory. According to the self-proclaimed Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko, Russia’s nuclear weapons have already began to transfer to Belarus.
The White House said that the agreements between the Russian Federation and Belarus until the ratings are changed the United States of the level of nuclear threat from the Russian Federation.
