“Brentford Star Ivan Toney Suspended for Betting Breaches and Gambling Addiction”

Brentford star Ivan Toney, who has scored 20 goals in 33 Premier League games this season, has been under investigation by the FA in recent months following allegations of 262 breaches of the association’s betting regulations between February 2017 and January 2021.

Earlier in May, the FA ruled that Toney would be banned from all football for eight months and ordered to pay a fine – after admitting 232 of the offenses he was charged with.

Now Brentford say the club accepts Toney’s suspension and will support the forward and his family in the coming months.

The FA also gives the reasons for the suspension on the association’s website, where it appears that Toney diagnosed with gambling addiction, and needs professional help. The player is also said to be willing to get help, and is said to have stopped playing football, but not other sports, at the same time that he wants to deal with his gambling problems with therapy.

Furthermore, the FA states that 126 of Toney’s games were in competitions, in which his club at the time participated, while 29 games were in matches, in which the forward himself participated. Furthermore, he bet on 13 occasions that his own team would lose, but then he did not participate in the matches.

Toney is allowed to start training with Brentford again on September 17 this year, and is allowed to play again from January 16, 2024.
