95-year-old Australian Clare Nowland died after she was shot with a stun gun by Australian police, causing strong reactions and international headlines.

Now a statement from the Australian police has once again set minds on fire.

“There are times when it is better not to say anything, and this is one of them,” writes a woman in response to the police statement, which was posted on Facebook.

Many did not hold back in their criticism of the New South Wales Police post.

“Incredible brain dead hypocrisy from the police,” reads another comment.

This was the statement that the police made after the death:

“It is with great sadness that we confirm that 95-year-old Clare Nowland passed away in Cooma this evening. Mrs. Nowland passed away peacefully at the hospital just after 1 p.m. 19.00 tonight, surrounded by family and loved ones who have asked for privacy during this sad and difficult time.”

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to those who were fortunate enough to know, love and be loved by Mrs. Nowland during a life of family, kindness and community.”

And there is one word in particular that makes people react.

– Fuck it.

Nowland died in hospital on Wednesday, a week after an Australian police officer shot her with a taser.

The police were called to the nursing home the 95-year-old was staying at, following reports that she had gotten hold of a steak knife.

Nowland suffered from dementia, and walked with a walker. The police said after the incident that she moved towards the police at “slow speed”, which would have fatal consequences.

According to The Daily Telegraph the other police officer at the scene is said to have told his colleague that she “could take the knife away from her”.

– No, screw it, the policeman is said to have said, before he fired the stun gun, according to the newspaper.

The 95-year-old was hit twice with the electric shock weapon, before she fell and suffered a skull fracture. She was taken to hospital, where she died.

Creates reactions

It was not possible to leave comments on the post, but that didn’t stop hundreds of Australians from taking to the internet to lash out at the police.

There was one detail in particular, or rather one word, that set their minds on fire.

“According to NSW Police, being hit by a stun gun is the same as walking away peacefully,” read one angry comment.

Another Australian called the use of the word “macabre”, while another said the description was “absolutely disgusting”.

The Australian News website News.com attempted to contact the New South Wales Police for comment. The police say they cannot comment on the case, as it is still under investigation.
