Beijing –
Scientist China do simulation destroy aircraft carrier the United States’ largest today, USS Gerald R. Ford, with hypersonic missiles. Surprisingly, Chinese researchers also concluded that the aircraft carrier was actually able to be conquered quite easily.
Using a war game simulation system, the Chinese military sank the USS Gerald R. Ford with a barrage of 24 anti-ship hypersonic missiles, in 20 intense fights.
As quoted detikINET from the New York Post, the results of the simulation have been published in a Chinese-language journal, the Journal of Test and Management Technology. In the scenario, US ships are attacked because they continue to approach islands in the South China Sea despite being warned several times.
Several missiles were launched in three long-range attack waves. In the end, the US ships were lost in the simulation. The researchers claim the simulation proves that the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier, which is considered unsinkable by conventional weapons, can be destroyed with certainty by a relatively small number of hypersonic attacks.
However, the Chinese researchers cautioned to assess these simulations with caution because the missile’s real-world performance may differ from predictions. The report could not be independently verified and analysts questioned its motivation.
“Anyone who publicly discusses the outcome of a game or war simulation has a political purpose, especially if they frame the outcome as a win or loss,” Drew Thompson, a former senior US defense official, said of the simulation.
The study was released not long after classified documents leaked online revealed China had developed a medium-range hypersonic missile that can hit targets thousands of miles away and also has a high probability of penetrating US defenses.
