An Water Day at the beginning of June, the Schubert monument is to be re-blessed.
The Schubert monument opposite the Cafe Restaurant Mößner in Schwarzenbach is currently being restored to a high gloss. It is to be re-blessed on “Water Day”. On this day, a commemorative mass is held at the “Water Cross” not far from the monument to mark the devastating floods of June 5th and 6th, 1895. The Schubert memorial will then be blessed afterwards.
The chairman of the Senior Citizens’ Association, Gertrude Gruber, found out about the creation of the monument in the parish chronicle: “On May 30, 1922, a male choir with 52 members was constituted. They sang a lot of Schubert songs and also the Schubert mass. The memorial was then erected by the members of the choir in 1928 to mark the 100th anniversary of the composer’s death.”
