According to The Telegraph it is now rumbling on all sides within the board of Ajax. The board of the Amsterdammers may have resigned, but before announcing the departure they still voted in favor of the remuneration of the supervisory board members.
The chairman of the board, Frank Eijken, announced during the last General Members’ Meeting that he no longer feels confident and that his board is therefore stepping down. That confidence is mainly gone because of the idea of rewarding the supervisory board, which was devised by Eijken. Before the board leaves, they still voted online for giving money to those supervisory board members. Since Eijken still owns 73% of the shares, there is a good chance that the reward will still be paid.
Within Ajax they are white hot because of Eijken’s action. According to many members of the club, they are not listened to and the board, despite the lack of trust, simply does what they want. It is possible that the Board of Directors will take the Supervisory Board with them in their downfall as a result of this decision. The new council, probably consisting of honorary members with Ajax DNA, wants to clean up and can hardly do anything else than also send the commissioners away.
Former business club chairman and member of Ajax Lex Hes is also completely unhappy about the incident. “We are concerned about the fact that the board wants to push this undemocratically down our throats. We just want to be able to talk about this as members. As it should be in an association. And after this dramatic season, we also think the timing is very bad. “
