“Microsoft CEO Urges Action Against Deepfakes and Licensing of Critical AI Technologies”

In a speech aimed at deciding how best to regulate artificial intelligence, the head of Microsoft called for action to be taken to make sure people know when a photo or video is real and when it was created by artificial intelligence for potentially nefarious purposes.

“We will have to address deep fakes. We will have to pay attention in particular to the fact that we are concerned about the majority of foreign cyber-influence operations, activities already carried out by the government of Russia, China, Iran,” Smith said.

He added that deepfakes are the biggest concern in artificial intelligence technologies.

Also, Brad Smith called for the licensing of the most critical forms of artificial intelligence, with obligations to protect physical security, cybersecurity, national security.
