Jakarta –
The Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2023 exhibition will be flooded with foreign brands from China. There are four new brands from the Bamboo Curtain country that will join, namely Haval, Ora, Tank, and Neta. Previously, there were three Chinese brands that existed in Indonesia, namely Wuling, DFSK, and Chery.
Yohannes Nangoi, chairman of the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), said the new brands from China would first explore the Indonesian market. GIIAS as an international scale automotive exhibition that has been recognized by the Organization Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles (OICA) is the right place.
“They usually go in first, so for example, roughly speaking, tempeh is a typical Indonesian food. Then they come to Australia (to be sold), usually bring the goods first, we introduce (introduce) them in Australia, if they sell, then they make the factory,” Nangoi told journalists in Jakarta.
Regarding the investment plan, according to Nangoi, these new brands could do this, if they saw a promising market potential in Indonesia. Maybe in the early stages they will set up an assembling or assembly facility.
“(Equal to three money) so they will enter Indonesia first and explore the market, if they are considered good enough, then they will usually invest later, whether they assemble first or how it usually goes there. So, hopefully the market can develop So they can invest,” he said.
Nangoi himself sees the participation of the four newcomer brands from China as encouraging and proud news. Because that means they know the potential of the automotive market in Indonesia is still very good and can continue to grow.
“If I see it, this is something to be proud of and happy about. That there are products from outside, that sees two very positive things in Indonesia. First, he hasn’t sold anything, but he has seen that Indonesia has tremendous market potential. ,” Nangoi said.
“Second, he dared to take part in the exhibition through GIIAS. And to participate in this exhibition, the capital was not small, because they had to rent a place, build a booth, then bring their vehicles into Indonesia, then logistics during the exhibition, setting up girl stands or people -people to look after the exhibition for 10 days, that’s not easy. It means they have seen that Indonesia is a market with a lot of potential and then they also see that the GIIAS exhibition is highly regarded in Indonesia, so they have the courage to invest their money , even though the business is not running yet,” said Nangoi.
