Former Chancellor of University of Lampung Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Corruption Case

Former Chancellor of the University of Lampung (Unila), Prof Karomani, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the corruption case for new student admissions (PMB) Unila Mandiri Line. Karomani was also burdened with paying compensation in the amount of IDR 8,075,000,000.

“Decided that the Defendant was sentenced to 10 years in prison and was obliged to pay compensation in the amount of Rp. 8 billion 75 million,” said chairman of the panel of judges Lingga Setiawan in court, as reported by Antara detikSumbagselThursday (25/5/2023).

In the verdict read out by Lingga, Karomani was also subject to a fine of Rp. 400 million, a subsidiary of 4 months in prison. For replacement money must be paid within 1 month and replaced with a prison sentence of 2 years if not paid.



The panel of judges’ verdict was lighter than the demands of the KPK public prosecutor (JPU). Where the KPK prosecutor previously demanded 12 years in prison and paid a replacement fee of IDR 10 billion and 10 thousand Singapore dollars. He was also fined Rp. 500 million, a subsidiary of 6 months in prison.

Regarding this decision, Karomani stated that he would think about it for the next 1 week.

“I will think about it first, Your Honor,” replied Karomani after hearing the verdict read out and consulting with his legal counsel.
