Representative Ghassan Skaf explained, “The tours he undertook began in the United States of America by visiting official officials in Washington, and ended with a tour in Paris with a meeting with French officials, with his joining the opposition delegation that left Lebanon for Paris.”
In an interview with the “Lebanon Debate”, Skaff said: “The presidential initiative that I took received great support from American officials and French officials, and they assured me that they support the democratic scientific path of the initiative that I am taking, which requires the nomination of a candidate for the opposition and so that there are two candidates competing for Presidency and things run in a democratic way.”
He added, “Lebanon believes in the democratic system, so we have to accept the outcome of the elections. The initiative is not directed to support one candidate in the face of another candidate. Rather, its first, primary and only goal is to achieve the presidential elections, and to achieve the elections, we must secure the quorum that was the cause of the problems in the previous electoral rounds.” .
And he continued, “When there is a candidate from each team, each team must secure a quorum for its candidate, so the quorum is secured in this way, and from there, each candidate from the undecided team must collect 65 votes in order to secure his success in the presidential race.”
Skaf stressed, “The settlement will not come from abroad, and this is what the Americans and the French explained to me. The French denied being supportive of one side over the other, and they are the ones who taught us the democratic system. It is unacceptable for them to break this system that we adopt.”
And he stressed that “the French will not support a candidate in another way, but they want the efforts to complete the presidential elections to succeed, and they pointed out to me that what the media did in terms of the elections led to the movement of the presidential file, and for them this was a kind of TEST to see which endeavor would lead to the achievement of the elections.” president quickly.
In response to a question, he answered: “The initiative has become in the stage of “sifting names” through contacts with all parties and blocs, including parties that are reluctant to explain to them the content of the initiative.
In conclusion, Skaff revealed, “In the coming days, we will reach the name of a single candidate to complete the electoral process with a democratic process, and he will be announced very soon.”
