Coach U-23 Indonesian National Team Indra Sjafri is grateful that the Garuda Muda troops have avoided the heavy group in the Qualifications 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.
From the results of the qualifying draw for the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup in Malaysia, Thursday (25/5), Indonesia was joined in Group K with Turkmenistan and Taiwan.
Competition in Group K is relatively light, especially since Indonesia will host the group qualifying round which will be held on September 4-12.
Indra Sjafri also admitted that he was grateful that Indonesia had avoided a heavy group in the qualifying round.
“Thank God, we just finished participating in the draw for the U-23 Asian Cup qualification, where we hosted Group K. We are in the same group as Turkmenistan and Chinese Taipei,” Indra Sjafri was quoted as saying on the PSSI’s official website.
“After finishing the drawing, from the hotel I went straight to the Nabawi Mosque to pray asking Indonesia to qualify for the final round in Qatar 2024 and of course excel at the Asian level later,” continued Indra Sjafri who was carrying out the Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
The coach who has successfully led the U-22 Indonesian National Team to win a gold medal in the 2023 SEA Games will dissect the opponent’s strength after the Umrah pilgrimage.
“In the near future I will discuss with all the assistant coaches to find out the strengths of the opposing team (Turkmenistan and Taiwan),” added Indra Sjafri.
The 2024 U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers will be joined by 43 participating teams to fight for 15 tickets to Qatar. One other slot has been confirmed to belong to the host Qatar.
The 11 group winners will qualify automatically. While the other four slots will be contested through the best runner up path.
Until now, Indonesia has never made it through to the finals of the U-23 Asian Cup which was just rolled out in 2013.
