Organizations of all sizes are increasingly falling victim to ransomware attacks and are inadequately protected against this growing cyber threat. According to new study findings Veeam 2023 Ransomware Trends Report almost all (more than 80%) data of one in seven organizations will be affected by ransomware attacks, highlighting a significant gap in protection.

Veeam Software has found that attackers almost always (more than 93% of the time) target backups in cyberattacks, and 75% of the time successfully weaken their victims’ recovery capabilities, reinforcing the importance of immutability and data isolation to ensure backup storage is protected.

The study shares insights from 1,200 impacted organizations and nearly 3,000 cyber attacks. The survey explores the key learnings from these incidents, their impact on the IT landscape and the steps taken or needed to implement data protection strategies that will ensure businesses are resilient. Our study shows that today it is not a question of whether your organization will be the target of a cyber attack, but how often. While security and prevention remain important, it is imperative that every organization focuses on the ability to quickly recover by increasing its resilience, he says Danny AllanCTO at Veeam. We need to ensure effective ransomware preparedness by focusing on the basics, including thorough security measures, testing of both original data and backups, ensuring resilience of backup solutions, and alignment between backup and cyber teams for a unified stance.
