The Free State is adding money for a total of seven new extinguishing water cisterns in the Saxon Switzerland National Park. In addition to the originally approved 522,000 euros, there are more than 616,000 euros.
Environment Minister Wolfram Günther handed over the funding notifications to Bad Schandau, Hohnstein and Sebnitz on Wednesday. “We do not leave the communities alone,” said the Green politician. Because actually the financing of volunteer fire brigades or measures such as the construction of extinguishing water cisterns are the responsibility of the municipalities.
According to Günther, forest fire prevention is extremely important for the national park, for protecting people and their belongings. The minister also emphasized the value of the national park as a motor for development in the region.
Background:
The cisterns are built near the Schrammsteine, between Hohnstein and Waitzdorf and near Sebnitz.
The Free State had already approved 522,000 euros for the systems in 2021 – i.e. before the forest fires. (Bad Schandau: 90,000 euros, City of Hohnstein: 225,000 euros Sebnitz: 207,000 euros)
The general increase in the price of building projects has also had a significant impact on the construction of fire-fighting water cisterns. That’s why there’s more money to come. Bad Schandau will receive 73,800 euros, the city of Hohnstein: 275,000 euros and Sebnitz around 267,700 euros.
