Gregoria Mariska Tunjung continue his work in Malaysia Masters 2023. Gregoria beat Korea’s Sim Yujin to qualify for the quarterfinals.
In the match on Court 2 of the Axiata Arena on Thursday (25/5) afternoon WIB, Gregoria dominated Sim Yujin almost the entire game. The seventh seed finally eliminated his opponent with a 21-15, 21-19 victory after only about half an hour of duels.
Gregoria took control of the game after leading 5-2 in the first game. The gap between the two players narrowed to 11-10 at the interval, but Gregoria never lost her advantage until the end.
Gregoria’s shot went wide on the game point at 20-15. Sim Yujin’s return was too long from the back line so Gregoria won the right to win the first game 21-15.
In the second game, Gregoria immediately won 4-1 over Sim Yujin. The score was tied at 9-9, then Gregoria earned three straight points to get back in front.
Sim Yujin responded by winning five straight points to return to a 14-12 lead, but Gregoria leveled the score at 14-14. Gregoria took four additional points, but Sim Yujin was again able to catch up.
After the score was 18-18, Sim Yujin allowed Gregoria to hit the back of the court. Gregoria won an exciting rally which ended with Sim Yujin smashing out to earn a match point at 20-18.
After that, Sim Yujin kept his hope after his drop shot failed to be returned. Gregoria finally finished Sim Yujin’s resistance with a hard cross smash to win 21-19.
Gregorian now just waiting for the opponent to fight for a place in the semifinals Malaysia Masters 2023. Gregoria will face the winner between second seed Wang Zhi Yi vs Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt.
