No more coffee on television for Quinty Trustfull and Loretta Schrijver: tomorrow it will come to an end after twelve years Coffee time. And so all other employees of the program must also say goodbye. In conversation with NU.nl fixed prices Coffee timechef London Loy the positive atmosphere in front of and behind the scenes.
“I secretly felt it coming a bit,” says Loy. The TV chef, who has been involved in the morning program since 2018 and previously worked at the Amstel Hotel, among others, heard in the corridors that the program might stop.
The decision was taken by the VriendenLoterij and the National Postcode Lottery. They sponsored for the past 12.5 years Coffee time. The contracts expired and because the RTL program does not reach enough viewers, it was decided to pull the plug.
“When I heard it was finally over Coffee time would come, I got a little stuffy. I was shocked,” Loy confesses. “I worked there as a TV chef for five years and I was really able to put my stamp on the program.”
Mark Rutte knew about spicy eggs
Loy’s alarm clock went off at 6 a.m. in recent years. He traveled by train to the studio in Amsterdam, where he prepared his item and started cooking live on TV around 10am. All those years he was allowed to receive many well-known guests in his kitchen.
“The guy I will never forget is Mark Rutte. He came, busy as he is, storming in almost too late. We made spicy eggs and Mark wanted to show that he also knew about it. I was not put off by the prime minister and showed that I had the upper hand – in a fun way of course.”
Loy praises the pleasant atmosphere on the set of Coffee time. “We exude positivity, without it being a charade. With us, guests can tell their story. And if someone is in my kitchen – be it a writer, actor or a fellow chef – I let them always shine. We are a warm, loving and relaxed program. We always got that back from the guests afterwards. “I really like that I was a guest,” they say.”
The cook himself also entered the studio with great pleasure. “Always with a big smile. I was allowed to cook and then also with such nice colleagues. That can hardly be called work anymore.”
Koffietijd in het kort
Koffietijd begint in 1994.
‘Not afraid of falling into a hole’
Loy is going to miss all his colleagues. “And especially the fun we have before the show starts. Sometimes the atmosphere is a bit ‘stressful’. That also has its charm, but everyone is on edge. People with so much love for their profession and for the program: I hope to find it somewhere else again.”
Loy’s alarm clock will no longer go off at 6 a.m. in the near future. “But I’m not afraid that I’ll fall into a hole. I still do a lot of TV jobs next to it and I also keep in touch via social media with Coffee time-colleagues. We’re not going to call each other every day, but I’ll definitely let you hear from me once in a while. It hasn’t been just anything, we all are part of the Koffietijd family. Yes, next Friday there will probably be some tears.”
At the time of Coffee time will be reruns in the coming weeks Own House and Garden: Good Life to see.
