Remedy revealed that Alan Wake 2 would be a digital-only release for both PC and consoles, stating that the decision was made to keep the game for a lower price, and also because most gamers no longer buy physical copies of games.

On the Alan Wake 2 website, Remedy has shared answers to a frequently asked question (FAQ) that mostly deals with how the game can be pre-ordered and what versions of it will be available. Importantly, however, this shows that Alan Wake 2 is a digital-only release, with Remedy justifying its choice by saying that most gamers don’t buy physical copies and that this keeps the game at a slightly lower price point.

“There are many reasons for this. First, a large number of games have switched to digital only. You can buy the Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc drive and the Xbox Series S is a digital console only. Often modern games are released only in digital format. There are currently no plans to release Alan Wake 2 on disc.”

On PC, the Epic Games Store and digital stores on consoles have already opened pre-orders. There are two editions to choose from: regular and deluxe.

The regular one costs $49.99 / €49.99 on PC and $59.99 / €59.99 on consoles and only contains the game itself. The deluxe edition is asking for $69.99 / €69.99, which includes cosmetic content and additional consumables in addition to the game. Pre-orders will include the Revolver Skin for Alan and the Survival Resource Kit for Saga.

The game will be localized into Russian in the form of subtitles.
