American-born rock and roll star Tina Turner died on Wednesday at the age of 83.
Turner’s spokesman said she died peacefully after a long illness at her home in Kusnacht, near Zurich, Switzerland.
Turner began her career in the 1950s, during the early years of rock and roll, and grew to become a phenomenon on MTV.
White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre said Turner’s death was “extremely sad news” and a huge loss to all those who loved her and to the music industry.
Sometimes called the “Queen of Rock and Roll,” Turner won six Grammy Awards during the 1980s.
Turner has won eight Grammy Awards throughout her career.
And dozens of her songs came on the list of the top 40 songs, such as (Typical Mel), (The Best), (Private Dancer) and (Bettery Good To Me).
180,000 people attended her concert in Rio de Janeiro in 1988.
