“Allies are now stronger than ever because NATO is expanding – Finland is already a member and we expect Sweden to join as the 32nd NATO member. The accession of these countries means strengthening security in the northern part of Europe, making the Baltic Sea an internal sea of NATO,” noted the Latvian Prime Minister.
Kariņš emphasized that he is looking forward to the NATO Vilnius summit, where further support should be provided in the implementation of the decisions taken at the Madrid summit on the new strategic concept of NATO, which envisages a comprehensive and coordinated approach to strengthening the defense of NATO’s Eastern flank and especially the Baltic states.
Likewise, NATO must give a signal that Ukraine will be supported as long as necessary, said Kariņš.
Similarly, NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg emphasized that when the war caused by Russia ends, NATO must ensure that history does not repeat itself, because it is known that this war did not start in February of last year, but in 2014, when Russia invaded Crimea.
“The war is unpredictable, no one can say today when the war in Ukraine will end, but it is important that it ends with the confidence that nothing like this will happen again,” Stoltenberg noted.
