Reporting from Space, pieces of a number of Japanese spacecraft debris were found via the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO).
“A NASA lunar orbiter has spotted the final resting place of the Japanese moon lander that failed in a touchdown attempt last month,” the page wrote, quoted Wednesday (24/5/2023).
As is known, the Japanese spacecraft, Hakuto-R failed to bleed on the moon, on April 25, 2023. Landing on that month, on the mission to place the Atlas Crater.
“However, communication with the lander was lost shortly before landing. The ISPACE team later confirmed that the lander landed unsafely on the surface,” he explained.
On April 26, LRO obtained 10 images of the vicinity of the landing site, with a narrow-angle camera (NACS), and a Lunar Reconnaissance Camera (LROC) science team set on searching for the missing lander.
Images published by the LROC team on Tuesday 23 May 2023 show at least four protruding and some debris on the lunar surface at 47.581 degrees North latitude and 44.094 degrees East longitude.
