Belarus’ president Aleksandr Lukashenko (68) is ill, but he says it is not serious.
There have been rumors about the health of Lukashenko, one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s closest allies, since he looked tired and a little unsteady at the military parade in Moscow on 9 May.
Lukashenko said on Tuesday, in a hoarse voice, during a meeting on health matters that he had been struggling with an adenovirus. It is a typical cold virus. Photos from the meeting have been sent by government official Pul Pervovo, who regularly discusses Lukashenko’s working day.
– If anyone thinks I’m going to die: Calm down, Lukashenko said. He added that it usually only takes three days to recover from such a virus, but that he has been too busy to take time off.
