Jakarta –
Jakarta Bhayangkara Precision finished runner up in the 2023 Asian Volleyball Championship. Volleyball athlete Farhan Halim said the result was unexpected because it exceeded expectations.
Appointed by the Central Board of the Indonesian Volleyball Association (PP PBVSI) to represent Indonesia at the AVC 2023 which took place in Manama, Bahrain, Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi was able to reach the final.
Since the beginning they were not targeted by the management. Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi was only asked to play loose and show the best performance.
This cannot be separated from the fact that some of the players from Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi have already appeared at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia. Practically they only have one day of recovery time before finally fighting again at the Asian level.
But they succeeded in proving they could compete with Asian teams, even though they ultimately failed to win at AVC 2023. Farhan Halim and Cs were defeated by Japanese representatives, Suntory Sunbirds, in the final which took place at Isa Bin Rashid Volleyball Hall, Manama, on Sunday (21/5) /2023). JBP lost to the Sunbirds by a score of 1-3.
“This result is actually beyond expectations, yes, it even exceeds expectations, because the management did not target anything, the important thing is that we play loose, play what we can and get it out of the game,” Farhan said when met at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, after receiving appreciation from PP PBVSI for the Cambodian SEA Games gold medal, on Wednesday (23/5/2023).
“It’s just a coincidence that we were given the fortune to enter the final, so history too, because we became the first ASEAN team to reach the final at the Asian Club Championship,” he said.
Although Jakarta Bhayangkara Precision now ranked second in Asia, Farhan is not satisfied. He hopes that this achievement will serve as evaluation material for him and his colleagues towards the Asian Games in Hangzhou, 23 September-8 October 2023.
“Maybe what needs to be improved is from a statistical point of view, yes. We actually used it at the SEA Games in Cambodia, it’s just that maybe the facilities need to be further equipped,” said the volleyball player from Bandung.
The facilities in question also include complete gyms, technology systems to view individual and team statistics, to the Pelatnas mess. “Many of them start with the system. In AVC, the technology systems of the participating countries’ teams were quite far above us,” he said.
Questioning the Pelatnas plans and trials before the Asian Games, Farhan said, he and his team would start their training camp next month.
“For try outs, we plan to go to Iran and Taiwan. That could be our try out before going to the Asian Games. For a fairly short time, of course this is enough in my opinion,” said the athlete who is nicknamed ‘Monster’ Service Ace.
