The contract gives Belgian companies the green light to compete for contracts in the production chain of the F-35, in addition to the measures agreed upon when purchasing the fighter aircraft. It should enable the industry to increase its opportunities at Lockheed Martin, for example through contacts with the right departments and easier access. The aircraft manufacturer will also regularly report on the possibilities offered by the agreement.
The three-year contract is financed by the FPS Economy over two years: 1,512,000 euros in 2023 and 738,000 euros in 2024. “This contract is ambitious and promising. We mainly want to optimize the potential economic benefits for Belgium. The objective is to give our companies with a link to the F-16 access to this new market, as well as any other company in our country that has know-how and technology in this field,” says Dermagne (PS).
In October 2018, Belgium ordered 34 aircraft to replace the F-16s. The first two devices should be delivered this year. By 2030, the Belgian army should have all aircraft available.
