No trace, no breakage, no noise. We don’t call him “the man with the golden fingers” for nothing, Abdelatif Redjil. A virtuoso at opening doors gently, with a technique that has made his reputation, the 67-year-old criminal is on trial this Tuesday and Wednesday by the Nanterre Criminal Court for 24 burglaries.
Breakages committed sometimes at the rate of three in the day, in Paris, Courbevoie, Levallois-Perret, Boulogne-Billancourt, Saint-Cloud, Puteaux, Sceaux (Hauts-de-Seine) and Marly-le-Roi (Yvelines), between June 15 and October 3, 2021. Common denominator to these fric-frac: the lock of the targeted housing. Those of the Héraclès brand are the defendant’s specialty, good-looking man, bald head and small gray beard.
None of these locks can resist it, whether the door is armored with three or six points. “It’s not the number of points that counts, it’s the lock”, explains the man who “found the flaw” in these mechanisms that are in principle inviolable. “It’s a piston that is poorly adapted,” he explains.
Once the weakness of the lock had been identified, it was necessary to “test”. It took him a while but the man seems patient and he is definitely thorough. Thus, he developed a “forcer”. “Precisely, what is this object? wants to know the president. “It’s a blank key that you have to file down where you need to. Which requires three or four hours of work.
Jewelry, handbags, cash
In addition to the lock model, the situation of the targeted dwellings and, above all, the assurance that they are empty, are the essential selection criteria of the burglar, who only targeted the apartments. During the summer season, yes, “because people have left”. Concretely, “the Man with the golden fingers”, nicknamed Zouz in his close entourage, came down from Deauville (Calvados), where he lived with his companion, for three or four days in the Paris region.
Thus on June 15, where he chained two breaks in apartments in Boulogne-Billancourt, boulevard Jean-Jaurès and Route de la Reine, where he stole jewelry, watches, handbags… for an estimated loot of 12,000 euros in the first apartment, 3,800 in the second. The whole series of break-ins represents tens of thousands of euros in damages for the victims, a “benefit of 60,000 to 80,000 euros” estimates the defendant.
Abdelatif Redjil still has a teammate, whose mission is to “ring”. ” He rings the doorbell. If there is no one, he telephones me and comes down to keep watch. Me, I go up. “Between mid-June and early July, the ace of the burglary resorted, according to the prosecution, to the services of a former friend of the Fresnes remand center, originally from Argenteuil (Val-d’ Oise) like him. A 50-year-old man, who also appears in court, “passionate about safes”. But who absolutely denies any participation in the burglaries.
The companion was slamming thousands of euros at the casino
It was with him that Abdelatif Redjil was checked driving a Toyota in the streets of Boulogne on June 24, 2021. Without a license, the burglar had been taken into police custody and the police had discovered in his trunk ” all the paraphernalia” of the thief. Glasses, hairpieces, lock mechanisms, gloves, hats. And two telephone boxes which made it possible to trace the telephone lines which the investigators will later discover that they always ended near the scene of the burglaries. They operated in a closed circuit between Abdelatif Redjil’s accomplice and himself.
Then, it is with the last of his brothers that the one who is also nicknamed “the Locksmith” acted. He responds to 17 burglaries. Struggling after a work accident, his home lost and without income, this damaged fifties “needed money” and his brother “needed someone”.
Among the defendants, there is also the companion of the “Locksmith”, who was leading the charge by slamming thousands of euros into the casino. Despite his meager income made up of RSA and housing allowance. Finally, there is the alleged receiver, known by the nicknames of “the Egyptian” or “Mike Brant”. At 70, this funny antique dealer claims to have only appraised photos of furniture presented by Abdelatif Redjil, unaware that the latter had been involved in the case of the Picassos stolen from the painter’s heiress in his private mansion. of the 7th arrondissement in 2007.
