Among the most anticipated red carpets of the year, that of the Cannes Film Festival is undoubtedly one of the most famous. For two weeks in May, celebrities compete in elegance and extravagance to make an impression. In 2023, Jennifer Lawrence in a red Dior dress and black flip-flops, Lily-Rose Depp in a strapless sequined dress from the Chanel archives and Adèle Exarchopoulos in an immaculate Fendi ensemble notably shone on the red carpet at the Palais des Festivals. But the look that ignited the Croisette remains that of Natalie Portman, who climbed the steps on May 20 alongside Julianne Moore, Cory Michael Smith, Charles Melton and Piper Curda for the film “May December” by director Todd Haynes.

Junon, an iconic dress from Dior
Flattering bustier, romantic petals, brilliant sequins, spectacular embroidery… the dress worn by Natalie Portman on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet had something to make an impression. Signed Dior, this creation by Maria Grazia Chiuri was in fact a historical reinterpretation of an iconic piece from the French house: the Junon dress. Imagined by Monsieur Dior himself for his Haute Couture “Mid-century” fall-winter 1949 show, it instantly entered the history of fashion thanks to its impressive embroidered petals with blue and green reflections that evoke the plumage of the peacock. Reworked by the current artistic director of the luxury brand, the American actress’ strapless dress is made of tulle entirely embroidered with shaded sequins, like the original model. This is also the second time that Maria Grazia Chiuri revisits this signature piece. In 2017, upon her arrival at the head of the artistic direction of the house, she delivered her version of the Juno.
