WASHINGTON – Chief of the Air Force (AU) United States of America (USA), Frank Kendall, tried to cool the claim jet fighter F-16 will have a significant impact in helping Ukraine beat the team Russia . Kendall acknowledged that the US-made fighter jet would not be a game changer for Kiev as air power does not play a decisive role in the conflict.

“The F-16 (fighter jets) will give Ukraine a boost in capabilities that they don’t have right now,” Kendall said at an event in Washington.

“But it’s not going to be a dramatic game changer, as far as I’m concerned, for their total military capability.” Russia TodayTuesday (23/5/2023).

After months of saying the US would not provide F-16 fighter jets to Kiev, President Joe Biden’s administration indicated last week that it would help Ukraine get the jets.

“No decision has been made on whether Washington will send the F-16s outright or just let European allies provide them,” US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told CNN on Sunday.

Regardless, the US will support a joint international training program to prepare Ukrainian pilots to fly the F-16 fighter jet.

Ukrainian officials have been trying for months to persuade their Western allies to provide F-16 fighter jets, arguing that they would have a major impact in a conflict with Russia. In fact, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yury Ignat on Saturday claimed that when Kiev adds F-16s to its arsenal, they will win this war.

However, Kendall said the US-built jets would not change the balance of power in the Russia-Ukraine conflict because an effective air defense system would prevent them from playing a major role in determining its outcome. He acknowledged that providing the F-16s would be seen by some as an act of escalation on the part of the US.
